The Handunugoda Estate has been in the family of Tea Connoisseur Herman Malinga Gunaratne for more than a century, was once a part of a large plantation of 2200 acres and was later acquired by the government in 1974.
Currently the Handunugoda estate boasts of a lush tea cultivation of 150 acres.
The Tea Factory was built with 150 year old machinery purchased, transported and re-assembled from Nuwara Eliya, the Tea capital of Sri Lanka. It is truly a unique facility, a living Museum dedicated in making the best cup of tea with machinery as rich with history, like as the Tea they produce.
At the Handunugoda tea estate, we do not mass produce our exquisite teas in an industrial manner; we are artisanal producers of highly sort after world renowned, Luxury Teas.
